Award-Winning Watercolour Artist, Educator, and Storyteller
Luan Quach is an award-winning watercolour portrait artist, educator, and storyteller known for expressive portraits, bold use of colour, and a unique ability to capture emotion through light and brushwork.
Through his artwork and teaching, Luan helps people see beyond the surface—discovering the beauty, character, and stories that make each person unique.
A Journey Shaped by Art and Life
Luan’s artistic journey began in childhood in Vietnam. Due to severe asthma, he often spent time at home, where he began taking art lessons and discovered a lifelong love for drawing and painting.
After coming to Canada as a young refugee, Luan built a successful career in engineering. The discipline, precision, and problem-solving skills developed throughout those years continue to influence his approach to art.
After more than three decades away from professional art, Luan returned to painting with renewed passion and purpose. Combining his technical background with artistic sensitivity and a deep appreciation for human stories, he creates watercolour portraits that go beyond likeness to reveal character, emotion, and connection.
Teaching and Purpose
As an educator, Luan believes learning to paint begins with learning to see. His teaching focuses on observing big shapes, simplifying complexity, understanding form, and discovering the beauty of colour and visual relationships. His goal is not only to help students learn how to paint, but to help them see differently.
Luan’s journey has been deeply shaped by his faith in Jesus Christ. He believes creativity is a gift from God and seeks to use his art, teaching, and storytelling to encourage others, share hope, and glorify Him.
