Luan Quach is an award-winning Canadian watercolor artist, portrait painter, educator, and juror whose work is recognized for its luminous use of light, compelling storytelling, and emotional depth. Through his paintings, he seeks to help people discover light, beauty, and hope through art.
Born in Vietnam and rooted in Chinese heritage, Luan began studying art at the age of nine under the guidance of five accomplished teachers. After arriving in Canada as a Vietnamese refugee, he pursued a successful engineering career in the automotive industry, where analytical thinking and creative expression developed side by side—an influence that continues to shape his artistic approach today.
Working exclusively in watercolor, Luan has developed a distinctive style that combines the discipline of classical portraiture with the transparency and luminosity of watercolor. His paintings often weave together light, symbolism, and human stories, inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and discover meaning beyond what is immediately seen.
His work has received international recognition through juried exhibitions and competitions, earning more than 65 awards across 20 countries. His paintings are held in private collections worldwide, and he is frequently commissioned to create meaningful portrait paintings that celebrate the unique story of each individual.
In addition to his painting career, Luan enjoys sharing his knowledge through workshops, demonstrations, mentoring, and judging. He believes that learning to paint begins with learning to see.
